Kalimpong is about 1,250 metres up, some 800 metres below Darjeeling, which makes it noticeably milder and a good base if the Darjeeling cold or crowds do not appeal. The drive in follows the Teesta river for much of the way, one of the better stretches of road in the district.
Most guests come for two or three nights, either as a stop between Darjeeling and Gangtok or as a quieter alternative to both. The road through Teesta Bazaar connects all three, so a Darjeeling–Kalimpong–Gangtok circuit works well without doubling back.
October and November are clearest. March to May is warm with the nurseries in bloom. Kalimpong stays comfortable later into the year than Darjeeling, so it is a reasonable choice even in December and January.
Kalimpong is roughly 70 km from Bagdogra airport and NJP railway station, usually two and a half to three hours, and about 52 km from Darjeeling via Teesta Bazaar.
Send us your dates and pickup point and we will come back with a fixed fare and a confirmed driver.
